Vatican City – Pope Leo XIV has reaffirmed the Catholic Church’s long-standing position on marriage, stating that it is exclusively a union between a man and a woman, open to procreation. This stance, consistent with previous papal teachings and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, has been reiterated in recent public statements and interviews.
While acknowledging the dignity and inherent worth of all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation, Pope Leo XIV has emphasized that the Church’s understanding of marriage is rooted in Scripture and Tradition. He has described marriage as a sacred covenant, instituted by God, that is intrinsically ordered towards the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of children.

Our pastoral care extends to all, but our doctrine on the nature of marriage remains unwavering.”
The Pope’s remarks come at a time when discussions surrounding LGBTQ+ rights and the definition of marriage continue to be prominent in many societies.
